Cells That Serve As Targets For Coronavirus Sars-Cov-2

In the course of research, scientists have discovered an unexpected correlation. It turned out that the expression of the ACE2 gene correlates with the expression of genes, which are activated by interferon – the substance produced during the immune response to the infection.

Experiments in which granular alveolocytes were processed by Interferon, confirmed such an assumption. This suggests that the SARS-COV-2 virus in the process of its evolution could learn how to use the cell’s protective mechanisms for their own needs. In fact, one of the side effects of the immune response in the case of Coronavirus is that it opens the gate for infection.

The authors of the work hope that their research will provide great assistance to scientists who work to create new or testing existing funds against the virus. "Our goal is to convey information to [scientific] community and exchange data as quickly as possible so that we will help scientists and doctors," says Alex Shalk.
