US landforces issued contracts to five companies: they must develop helicopters that meet the requirements of the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (Fara).
Five companies received contracts from the US Army: AVX Aircraft, Bell, Boeing, Karem Aircraft and Sikorsky.
Only two will be chosen for the next phase, involving the construction of prototypes of combat vehicles. Serial winner production should start at the end of the 2020s.
Recall, the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft program is aimed at finding a replacement for old light multipurpose OH-58 Kiowa. The helicopter of the future should be very fast, maneuverable and able to perform a variety of tasks.
One of the most interesting ideas offered AVX Aircraft together with L3 Technologies. She presented a car having a coaxial carrying screw and two velitgers on the sides of the fuselage. Also helicopter received two large wings.
